Day Hike on July 22, 2018 at 8:00AM

Aliso Wood and Canyons Wilderness Park- 28373 Alicia Pkwy, Aliso Viejo, CA 92656

Parking

Free parking/drop off at the ranger station on Alicia Pkwy, limited parking stalls, so we highly suggest carpool and/or dropoff and street parking near Pacific Park ext off of 73 freeway. Take right onto Canyon Vistas to get to the gate. Park along the street.

Transportation

No transportation will be provided, carpooling is recommended to reduce traffic

Hike details

10 miles of Easy trails, plus 3 miles of Difficult trails.

  • Start from Aliso creek trail (2 miles), go to

  • Meadows trail (1.5 miles)

  • North Aswut trail and Alta Laguna Blvd walkway (1 mile)

  • West Ridge Trail (2.5 miles)

  • Rock-it trail (1.25) miles

  • Coyote Run Trail (1.25 miles)

  • Wood Canyon Trail (1 mile)

  • Loop back through Aliso Creek trail (2 miles)

Top of the World elevation: 1045 feet

Food and Water

Bring 2 liters of water per scout. Bring snacks to have energy for the hike, some possible snacks are energy bars/granola, trail snacks, tangerines, bananas. You are welcome to bring lunch on own. All scouts and hikers should drink plenty of water and have a good sleep before hike.

Backpack

Day backpack should be light and comfortable with 10 essentials & scout hat. Sunglasses are recommended to protect your eyes from the sun. Wear class B and a any comfortable pair of short.

Skills

Scouts will need to learn:

How to use a compass, how to use a map, what to do if abandoned, first aid skills (i.e dehydration, scrapes, infections, hyperventilation, bites, elevation sickness, poison ivy, animals, sunburn, heat stroke, 2-3 person carry, what to do in case of a wildfire, Assisting other hikers, and keeping the trail clean for other hikers/environmental friendly.

Dear Dong Da Scouts and Parents,

  • Welcome back to scouting after a long summer break, I hope everyone has a good, relax and fun time so far.
  • UPDATE: Next Sunday (7/22/2018), Tay Son and Dong Da will have a day hike in Aliso Wood and Canyon Wilderness Park. Tentative plan for the hike from 8AM -  1PM.  It is a 10 miles of easy hike and 3 miles of dificult trails.  Please have your parents do the on-line permission as soon as possible.

Merit Badge Day
Scoutmaster Conference (SMC) and Board of Review (BOR)

1. The BOR will be conducted on the second Sunday of each month.  The cut-off for request submission is Monday night before the following Sunday BOR.  This give the BOR time to prepare.
2. Scout must include scout name, rank, unit, and Scoutmaster name
3. BOR for Tenderfoot, 1st and 1nd Class requires an essay from the scout
4. BOR for Star and Life requires another leader for another unit tosit in the review
5. No SMC on the same day as BOR
