Dear Scouts,

This is the July advancement camp information 

Location: Caspers Wilderness Park, San Juan Meadow Group Area D
Address: 33401 Ortega Hwy, San Juan Capistrano, CA 92675
When: Friday July 14, 2017 at 6 pm to Sunday July 16, 2017 at 11:30 PM
Drop off: free. Leaders and parent helpers will get a parking pass at the gate; see attached fife for entrance pass information.
Wear class A and B uniform
Bring: personal camping equipment, 10 essentials: eating utensil, water canteen, hat, sunglasses, sun screen; patrol sticks, 1 gallon of water
 
Patrol leaders and assistant leaders, make sure the scout in your patrol who is keeping patrol box washes it, brings it to camp and takes it back home.
 
This camp is focusing on BSA advancements. First year scouts are finishing the Tenderfoot rank requirements and starting Second class requirements. Second year scouts will finish Second and First class requirements.

Dear Scouts,
 
Congratulations to the following scouts who earned merit badges: Ethan Bui, Ethan Chen, Alan Dang, Andrew Doan, Edward Duong, Andrew Hoang, Andrew Hong, Andy Le, Khoi Viet Ethan Luu, Ian Mai, Aidan Nguyen, Alex Nguyen, Benjamin Nguyen, Colin Nguyen, Kevin Nguyen, Ryan Nguyen, Darren Phan, Dyan Phan, Dustin Tran, Minh Trinh.
 
TMP:
- COA -  Scouts must wear full class A uniform, including sash. All badges have to be sewn on.
- Second class BOR - Edward Duong, Ryan Nguyen, and Dylan Phan - wear full class A uniform, including sash; bring your "The Boy Scout Hand Book" and a hard copy of your essay. Review the scout oath and scout law, both in English and Vietnamese.
- First year scouts and scouts who took the BSA swimming test at the last meeting, ask to test and sign the requirement. Continue to finish 6 b and 6 c of Tenderfoot requirements.
- Second year scouts finish Requirement 2 of First class.
- Games
 
- Prepare for July 14 camp:
Each patrol, discuss Saturday dinner.
Scouts who are keeping patrol box, wash and bring it to this Sunday meeting. Each patrol will assign the patrol box to another scout. Scouts will take turn to wash it, bring it to camp, bring it back home, and keep the patrol box until next camp.

For first year scouts and who need to take BSA basic swimming and BSA swimming tests; these tests satisfy the following requirements: Aquatic: Seccond class requirement 5a, 5b, 5c, 5d. First class requirements: 6a., 6b, 6c, 6d, 6e.

2. July Advancement Camp

Deadline to submit the permission slip: July 02, 2017.

This camp is focusing on Tenderfoot, second and first class requirements.

Second year scouts are encouraged to work on camp meal requirements.

Ian Mai, Benjamin Le, and Andy Pham, prepare for your Thu Thach and Tuyen Hua at this camp.

Parents, please refer to previous emails for the tasks to help Tay Son scouts.

 

Scouts, the following is guidelines for your rank requirement essay:

For item 9 in the Tenderfoot or item 10 Second class rank, to demonstrate Scout Spirit, please write an essay.  The essay topic is about the 12 scout laws. Please discuss:

What each law means to you in your own words.  Don't paraphrase what you memorize from the book, rather what you genuinely think and feel about it.  And don't worry whether it is right or wrong.  We are not looking for the "right" answers.

What have you done, or could do, to apply any of these laws outside of scouting, at home or at school.

What is your favorite law of all, and why.

 

First class:

The topic of your 1st Class essay (item 11) is Leadership.  Leadership development is emphasized in scouting because it is an essential life skill.  It helps a person to maximize his potential and achieve his goals in life. There is no requirement in the length of the essay, but it should be thorough and thoughtful.  It is a reflection of your attitude toward scouting and life. Please give it your best.  You can use the below questions as a guide in your writing.

What does leadership mean to you?

Is leadership a natural-born talent, or a skill set one can learn?

What are the trait(s) of leader? and what trait(s) you excel at?

How does it apply to you at your age, in scout and outside of scout?

Do you agree leadership is important in life?  and how so?
